Chunky Salsa Recipe Ingredients:
Onion – 2 cups (finely chopped)
Tomato – 2 cups (diced chopped)
Green Bell Pepper – 2 cups (sliced chopped)
Sweet Red Pepper – 1 large sized (sliced chopped)
Habanero Pepper – 1 pepper (finely chopped)
Jalapeno Pepper – 4 peppers (seeded and chopped)
Serrano Pepper – 2 peppers (seeded and chopped)
Green Chilies – ½ cup (deseed and chopped)
White Vinegar – 2 cups
Tomato Paste – 1 can
Fresh Cilantro – ½ cup
Lime Juice – ½ cup
Garlic Cloves – 3 cloves
Ground Cumin – 4 tsp.
Hot Pepper Sauce – 1 tsp.
Dried Oregano – 2 tsp.
Water – 2 cups
Sugar – ½ cup
Olive Oil – 1 tbsp.
Salt – as per taste
Note: Tomato Paste can be made at home or is available at super-market.
Chunky Salsa Recipe Steps:
Pre-Preparation:
Chop all the peppers and the green chilies.
Chop Tomatoes :
Make an “X” mark on the tomato bottom.
Take the thick-bottom deep cooking casseroles.
Fill the water almost 2/3rd its quantity.
Bring the water to the boiling point.
Place tomatoes in the boiled water, at a time.
Let them boil for a minute.
Remove tomatoes from the casserole and place it in ice cool water.
Discard the skin of tomatoes. Peel it off.
Dice chop the tomatoes.
Note: Deseed the green chilies before chopping. Use chopping board.
Preparation:
In a steamer or a stockpot, heat the oil over the medium flame.
Combine the chopped onions, green peppers, red peppers and habanero peppers.
Stir in the diced tomatoes.
Add the tomato puree and pinch of salt.
Mix jalapeno peppers, Serrano peppers, and cilantro leaves.
Squeeze lime juice and add sugar.
Season the mixture with white vinegar.
Add the grounded cumin and the garlic cloves.
Mix the ingredients to blend their taste and flavors well with each other.
Reduce the heat, simmer for few minutes and bring the mixture to boiling point.
Ladle the hot mixture into the can.
And the Chunky Salsa sauce is ready to be dipped in!
Note: Keep the pan uncovered while you allow the sauce to cook.
The salsa sauce is available in markets, but it is healthy to eat the homemade dip. The best part of making it at home is the flexibility to reduce the proportion of ingredients used. This leaves no substitute to homemade, fresh, and low-fat salsa sauce dip.
