Ghee Rice Recipe : Healthy Rice Of South India!

Here is one such simple and quick Ghee Rice Recipe which can be made within no time with only rice and other handy ingredients.

Ingredients Required in Making Ghee Rice Recipe:

  • Rice – 2 cups
  • Bay Leaf – 1 sprig
  • Green Chilies – 2 pieces
  • Star Anise – 1 piece
  • Water – 3cups
  • Cinnamon sticks – 2 inch
  • Cloves – 5 pieces
  • Onion (Sliced) – 1 onion
  • Strand mace – 1 piece
  • Green Cardamoms – 5 pieces
  • Cashews – ¼ cup
  • Raisins – ¼ cup
  • Black Pepper – as per taste
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Ghee – 3 tbsp.
  • Coriander Leaves – 2 tbsp.

Method of Making Ghee Rice Recipe:

  • Wash the Rice and then soak them for 20 minutes.
  • Add Ghee to a pressure cooker and heat it.
  • Add cashews and raisins and stir them till it gets golden brownish.
  • Now, add sliced onion and stir for few seconds again.
  • In the cooker, now add cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaf and star anise and add some more ghee.
  • Add green chilies and fry for a minute.
  • Now, add the soaked rice and mix everything well.
  • Keep the flame on medium for 4-5 minutes and stir to prevent burning.
  • Add some water along with salt and black pepper.
  • Cook the Rice for more 5 minutes until it’s fully cooked.
  • Season the cooked rice with chopped coriander leaves.

The only ingredient which you need to select cautiously is the rice. While you can choose any rice for the preparation, it is advisable to use basmati rice. Any rice dish looks rich with the long grains spread individually. With little efforts of adding cardamom, cloves, bay leaf and mace, your rice can reach another level. The preparation is all about mixing ghee with rice. All it requires is to suttee the spices and nuts in ghee and combine with steamed rice.

The texture is immensely commendable which fresh rice inseparable from the ghee. Also the aromatic fragrance from a pot of rice cooked in ghee and various Indian spice powders intensely strong. The smooth white colored basmati rice seasoned with crunchy topping roasted nutty dry fruits looks beautiful. The ghee rice is most easy among various rice dishes and it is the most preferred rice due to heavenly flavors.

The final texture of the rice has to be smooth and rice grains must stick with each other. Thus do not allow it to get cooled. Cook with patience and within half an hour you will see that your healthy rice is ready. You can pair this heavy ghee rice with any Indian curries, chutney or vegetable sabzi with korma. It’s one of the best combination to have mild flavored rice with spicy homemade dal. At times, you do not even need at the meal, it goes well with plain and Dal alone.

Remarks:

  • Cashews and raisins are optional.
  • It’s fine if you don’t add onion in the preparation, you can use them in garnishing.
  • If you want you can add green peas too.

Garnishing:

  • Sprinkle some Sliced Almonds on the top.
  • Add extra cashews and raisins
  • Properly place sliced onions.
  • Add coriander leaves
