Ingredients for Onion Paratha Recipe:
Wheat flour – 1 cup
Finely chopped onion – ¾ cup
Finely chopped green chili – 2 pieces
Salt to taste
Garam masala – ½ tsp
Coriander powder/ dhania powder – 1 tsp
Cumin seeds/ jeera – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder/ haldi – ¼ tsp
Chopped coriander leaves – 4 tsp
Oil – 4 tsp.
Method for Onion Paratha Recipe:
Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan.
Add cumin seeds in it. Let them crackle.
Now add chopped onion. Saute until they become light brown.
Now add salt, green chili, garam masala, coriander powder, turmeric powder and mix well. Fry for 1 min.
Now add chopped coriander leaves. Mix well and switch off the stove.
Let the mixture cool for 5 minutes.
Now take a deep bowl. Add wheat flour in it.
Also add onion mixture, 1 tsp of oil.
Knead dough by adding water step by step. The dough has to be like chapati dough.
Now apply 1 tsp of oil on the dough surface.
Cover it with a clean muslin cloth and let the dough rest for 15 minutes.
Now divide the dough in 6 equal parts. Make a round ball of each part.
Take one ball and roll it in the dry wheat flour.
On a rolling board roll the ball in a circle of 6-7 inch diameter with the help of a rolling pin.
Now heat a tava. Put the rolled paratha on the tava. Keep the flame to medium. When tiny bubbles start to appear flip the paratha. Apply oil on the above side.
Flip the paratha to other side and apply oil. Press the paratha with the help of a spatula.
Now cook the paratha until it becomes golden brown.
Many people prepare an onion paratha by stuffing the onion mixture in the dough ball and then rolling it. But here I have not opted that method. Stuffed parathas are difficult to roll. All the stuffing comes out and things become messy. Even the stuffing do not spread evenly. So to avoid that I have sauteed the onions in oil and spices and then everything is mixed in the dough itself.
Adapting this method has made the whole process a lot easier. The taste does not change in this type of paratha also. The cooked mixture of onions and spices can be stuffed if you like stuffed version of paratha. The whole process is same just instead of adding the onion mixture in the dough it has to be stuffed like other stuffed paratha.
